"This is rather how I feel as a woman walking into a meeting whose participants are all men. Perhaps my reaction wouldn’t be quite as dramatic - but that’s largely because women in tech are used to this situation by now. The men may all be absolutely lovely, and they may never make any overt sexist remarks, and even so, the woman may well keep feeling, at the back of her mind, that this meeting isn’t for people like her."

@onepict@chaos.social @linguacelta@toot.wales drawing any sort of line is refusing to work with someone whose views you dislike, and theres no shame in that; on the contrary, it is cowardly and shameful to be "apolitical" and inclusive of harmful beliefs in your spaces
@hsza I think in tech we do choose to carefully ignore that Tech is political.
As I've said to @APC in the past we write our political values into our code.
So when we create projects or join projects which side of the line we choose to stand on is important.
What I love about @linguacelta essays is the acknowledgments of this and how as women we're extremely affected by how the community treats us. When we do push back we are seen as rude.
@onepict @linguacelta my perspective was helped a lot by work trips to Africa, where I was quite obviously the only White person. And being White had obvious cultural baggage.
