#AskFedi #cars, what new hotness exists in the world of windscreen washer fluid since the last time I bought a bottle like a decade ago (which has just run out)? Any special formula to get? Anything with rain repellent or anything added in? Anything specific to avoid? Any and all suggestions and boosts welcome.
For anyone in Sydney, Genuine Edge in Lidcombe sell 500mL and 5L bottles of ACDelco Optikleen, and it's 20% off for a few days: https://www.genuineedge.com.au/acdelco-optikleen-windscreen-washer-concentrate-5l
They don't ship the 5L bottle, so it looks like I might be buying the little one from them. Can't spot anyone selling it off-the-shelf in Canberra.
And I can't find a straight answer on how big my windscreen washer bottle is - there's plenty of AI slop articles with meaningless random numbers that vary from page to page, including one claiming a Corolla's washer bottle is 300mL in size - but the consensus seems to be "about a gallon" among Americans on the topic so probably four litres ish is a reasonable volume to plan for.
@timixretroplays your car鈥檚 manual should have that detail
@jpm it (a previous-model Hyundai Kona) does not appear to
@timixretroplays good question. In the absence of any better options, Bar鈥檚 Bugs. Which reminds me, the dadmobile has been whining at me for weeks about the windscreen washer fluid being empty.
@timixretroplays paging Car Opinion Havers @Kels_316 @liamvhogan @vwdasher et al
@jpm @timixretroplays @liamvhogan @vwdasher about 10yrs ago on the urging of a mechanic I bought a 5l bottle of "AC Delco Optikleen" and it was incredible. When it ran out I went back to Bars Bugs from supercheap and it's fine.
@Kels_316 @jpm @liamvhogan @vwdasher looks a bit expensive but I literally can't remember the last time I spent money on washer fluid so I am absolutely cool with buying something with "incredible" performance
