I'm about to setup #Newt (for #Pangolin) on my #Proxmox #HomeLab and being a n00b, not sure where to put it.
My plan is in a new VM using Docker, so I can either add more Docker services later, or put those in their own VM.
Is that sensible, or if not what might be better? And what resources should I give to this VM? I saw one blog putting it directly on the Proxmox host which seems a bad idea.
So far all I have is a VM for #HomeAssistant which was setup using the Proxmox helper.

@happyborg proxmox advices against anything direct on the host from my experience.
I have multiple vms running docker. And those vms running services I want to expose through pangolin run a newt Docker container. This way I can use the labels in docker compose of the services to configure the respective pangolin ressources. And as the newt container has the docker socket mounted, it autodiscovers the services.
So I have multiple newt „Sites“ on the same proxmox host in vms
@whereistheline I'll go with the Proxmox Docker VM helper and add Newt to that for starters and see how that goes for now. I think that remains compatible with your approach which sounds good!

What's the min and ideal resources for your VMs? So far I have one Dell #Optiplex i5 8GB node (#Proxmox host) and another for PBS but I intend to add one or two more for capacity and auto-migration.
@happyborg concerning ressources: honestly, you have a pve host and a Backup Server. I would go with this until they glow of overusage 😊 we all seem to overprivision our homelabs
@whereistheline Am I right to think you can keep the docker sockets read-only for security? (Real n00b here, just trying to pick up bits here and there!)
@happyborg sure just define it as ro in the docker compose for newt.
@whereistheline How about remote access to the #HomeLab network?
I will rarely be on site, so want remote access to everything. Would that be handled separately (e.g. another VM+Docker-Newt) or?
