I think we could be a lot louder about the robust filtering options on Masto. Maybe even make it easier, more prominent in our clients.
Why should people like Tig have to give up the nicer side of social media: sharing exciting creative projects and having a laugh?
Always-on social media is a terrible place for “the news”. Misinformation, algo rage-baiting. Keeps your nervous systems on high alert, ALL the time. We’re brittle, anxious, exhausted… right when we need strength for IRL activism
@meljoann I’ve got everything filtered to hell and back, and still the rage baits slip through. Not sure how healthy social media is at all for humans. We didn’t evolve for this level of constant info exchange.
@awfulwoman same. I don’t have to worry about not being informed, it always reaches me despite the filters!
But it definitely helps that it’s kept to a minimum
