@Em0nM4stodon Lots of things, but one of the main ones I keep coming back to is from William S Burroughs' "Apocalypse."
In particular, the bit "Not to be interpreted as an invitation to all manner of unrestrained(*) and destructive behavior; that would be a minor episode, which would run its course."
Everything is permitted because nothing is true. In one sense, we are here, in a post-truth world. This gives license to the very worst bullshitters and others that use their wealth and power to bend reality to their will. But those people need people below them to be their instruments of control. But if anything is permitted, that means that normal folk that don't lust after money or power or whatever can still assert their version of reality. And they can do it without convincing other people of some bullshit. So, for example, even though "AI" is currently a great force multiplier for the greediest and most powerful players, there'll still be a Luddite class who just quietly and calmly call "bullshit" when they see it.
That whole work (Apocalypse) is just sheer brilliance, in my opinion. Full text here:

[* edit: pretty sure this should read "unrestrained" so I've changed it]
