A single, well-behaved tree with a lush canopy grows in a narrow courtyard of an apartment building in the Haight Ashbury. On either side of the tree: nicely trimmed knee-high boxwood hedges (also well-behaved) and tall orange brick walls. Gray skies overhead, beige limestone below. There are a few apartment doors in the distance, some with columns. Overall this is a handsome courtyard. But roses and grass would be nicer, if you know what I mean.
