@tante in it's current iteration? No. If it was decentralized and publicly governed? Absolutely it would benefit more than it harms. The issue is implementation not AI itself in my humble opinion.

@tante I also deeply dislike that you attempt to shoehorn in an emotive equivalence just to try and make your weak case seem more credible. If you need to use a false moral equivalence to make your case, then do you really have a case to begin with?

@tante The Problem there is that all such presumptions blindly assume any total forward awareness of costs is even possible prematurely. Look at any technical platform in it's infancy. You will see doomsayers more than brightsiders. What inevitably results of course is that both are wrong.

You help nothing by presuming as-yet undiscovered costs.

@tante Value is what people are willing to pay for it. Overwhelmingly, people have shown that they are not willing to pay as much for it as it costs to provide. I'm not aware of any meaningfully large counterexamples?

Instead of asking whether AI is useful, I like to ask if A.I is actually liberating anyone from any exploitation.
That's how we've historically justified technological progress: machines freed people from brutal physical labor, etc.

If it does reduce exploitation , then this deserves to be considered useful.

If not, then what do they mean by "useful"?

With that angle, "Child labor" doesn't qualify, which is a good sign !
