@stefan been subjected to CW policing re general political content once…
…was not a productive exchange
@filmfreak75 Ah, sorry, glad it didn't sour you on being here!
@stefan nope … was a random i never interact with and i try to add when i remember but i just have #PoliticalSanity filters for the triggers and suggested same
@stefan @admin I once wrote https://karl-voit.at/2022/06/05/mastodon-cw-misuse/ which adds some aspects to the discussion on CWs.
YMMV
Thank you for sharing this!
Yeah, this feature should really be renamed to "subject" the way some people use it. I actually have my settings set to "always expand posts marked with content warnings", and rely on filters for a few topics/keywords.
I appreciate the thought, but I prefer to have more control over my home feed.
Also, the study you included looks interesting, saving it to check it out later!

I was there during the twitter migration, and saw some very immature shaming of newcommers not using Alt and CWs. Which prob gave the fedi a reputation that may still persist, with some that left.
From that, I took the lesson that you cant scold or require these things. Ppl will leave. It's also not respectful to a fellow-human stranger.
Now, they are not bad ideas. And there is far more value in -building- their cause. Than tearing down a person who's iffy to them.
@admin@socel.net Absolutely!
CWs are great. Alt text is super important, and useful for everyone.
I just think we can be kinder to people who are just learning about these things.
Reminds me of a poll I ran a while ago.
And just to clarify, this is less about specific rules around CWs/alt text and more about having those rules in writing, and making their enforcement the responsibility of moderators.
Agreed; I've always remembered and appreciated Eugen noting that the Fediverse's nature reflects the variety of sensibilities about what might be considered appropriate to warn about.
(I'm similarly gratified to imagine some servers don't specify clear rules because they don't feel they need them while supposing and allowing that other servers indeed might.)
