Wow, I just got hate-speeched (I think) in public for the first time in a long time 😮 (so #CW)

Earlier today I was over in Mercer Island for lunch with my mom. On the walk from the car to the restaurant, after some guy was leering at me as we crossed he street, I mentioned that I'm used to getting disapproving looks from the church crowd, or guys checking me out creepily, but no one around Seattle actually *says* anything gross to my face.

Well, prove me wrong! A little later, as we were walking back from lunch to the car, a big black truck rolled by with its tinted windows down, and two 20s-ish guys in it. They were yelling stuff out the window at me (which I assume was queerphobic or sexist—based on their demeanor, but asshats rarely understand how sound compression works, so they're almost always unintelligible as they drive by).

That event led to us having an actual, open conversation about some things that we've never talked about before. Which is how my mom and I both found out the other had been sexually assaulted, twice. Her when she was 18, and again in her 20s, and me when I was 13, then again just a couple years ago.

I think that's the most real conversation we've ever had (and a sad thing to bond with your mom over).

If it’s dead-dead, throw the whole thing in the bin. You don’t need that kind of dead weight right now.

But if you’re ready to being home a new Bready Mercury or Breadgitte Bardough, I’ll bet someone near you has some discard looking for a new home.

@ProPublica i would say there is so much economic growth going on and so many demographics changing they are forced to gerrymander and consolidate. secular underbelly and more money will liberalize and enrich some areas - better education, more opportunities will serve to sway the cabal back to more more niche status - the players won't be a factor #cw #consensus

Anyone know of a good resource regarding "content warnings"? It strikes me as a very nuanced topic - despite how some people feel. I spent much of my early life getting the message that I'm too much and that I need to say things differently, be quiet. So while I can appreciate some value in a content warning on occasion, I am not about to put myself behind a curtain to avoid causing other people to feel things.

Ok, I heard some fair complaints about my schlocky previous post, and this one is much more serious. Ok, what am I saying?? It's straight-up sci-fi comedy with a retrocomputing subject matter, but I took it seriously.

Initially, I was inspired by CJ's wonderful blost about his transition from being a long-term mac user to now daily-driving Linux, and wanted to share my own experiences as a long-term Mac user over nearly two decades, with a decade and a half separating the two times. But then my internal Sotolf mental processes went off and reminded me of how elitist and anti-common-person / anti-consumer / anti-human Apple was, and I went in a very different direction.

I hope y'all enjoy the humor. :D

Minor #CW: some of the humor is of a USPOL nature. It's very light, humor and presentation-wise, but the implications are pretty dark, if you take it seriously (which you're not intended or likely inclined to!)
