There's a question here for the UK Green Party: how 'populist' should it be ?
One technique of ReformUK is to make deliberately controversial announcements just to focus media attention on what it sees as its most popular ideas - or indeed to distract from its corruption - and the media always falls for it.
Should the Green Party be more alarmist about threats like AMOC shutdown, to capture the media agenda ?

A lot of greens spent a long time explaining, protesting and begging that people take notice of the environmental situation.
All they got was burnt out.
Think the current approach of campaigning for social justice, which is part of the environmental thing, is much more productive, positive and relatable to most people.

I don't think it would work. Too hypothetical and hard to imagine. Too many "mights", "possibles", etc. Even a timeline of 25 years is too long for most people to care (many, maybe, but certainly not most).
Controversial headlines need the core of a grievance (real or not) that is felt today. not a risk that won't be felt for 20+ years time.
Better to focus on energy security and winning the argument that renewables will lower bills for now.

I'm not sure that the GPEW can ever be populist in the same way in which MAGA and its British equivalents are, because that seems to equate to using massive amounts of corporate funding to secure targeted soundbites pushed through social and mainstream media.
Meanwhile, actual polling suggests that people in the UK are concerned about the effects of climate change in spite of the huge media bias in favour of right-wing denial.

I think so too, the challenge is that the media will deride it as evidence that the Greens are crackpots, however I still think it could work as people can see much environment impact with their eyes, and it could even have the secondary benefit of reducing the credibility of the deriding media.
For the far right it’s actually; collude with our client media to socialise controversial announcements to gradually shift the Overton Window further rightwards. There’s no “falling for it”.

But if recent time has shown us anything it’s that those who are successful in the public sphere in the current climate always over promise and under deliver. The actual reality of the situation makes very little difference.
Whether that’s in a positive sense (see the Tech Bros) or in an alarmist sense (see Reform).
