So, as I'm learning this platform, what is the difference between liking a post and "favoriting" a post?

@may_viser same question. Is there an FAQ section?
Hi, welcome to Mastodon.
Liking and Favoriting are the same thing. When you click the star you Like/Favorite the post. This actually does nothing, but let the poster know you liked their post.
The spaceship icon is Boost. This does something. Anyone who follows you will see whatever you boost in their timeline.
Don't be afraid to boost. There is no algorithm here so that's how everyone exchanges information.
Boost and Follow. That's the key.

@mastodonmigration @Miriam_R @may_viser @FediTips Good tips, except that boosting too much will get people to hide your boosts. Keep that in mind.

Hmmmm... not so sure about that. Boosting is pretty important to keep the wheels spinning. But there is no wrong way to use Mastodon, and GM7077 is right that some people like to curate their feeds by hiding boosts from folks who boost a lot, but many people appreciate big boosters too.
One of the great things here is the ability to manage your feed. Lists are cool, and muting/blocking is sometimes necessary.

@mastodonmigration @GM7077 @Miriam_R @may_viser @FediTips Perhaps there's a strong correlation of: low threshold to hide boosts, low number of followed (high threshold to add)
