In case you missed it. Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), Greens and The Left have decided to leave the US corporate billionaire owned social media network X and move to the US corporate venture capitalist owned social media network Bluesky. 🤷

@mastodonmigration difference has Mastodon as a brand as ZERO PR from the company itself.
I feel like Mastodonians are an entire epoch ahead of the general population. Most of us only needed to get burned once. I always thought I was idealistic and hopeful but it seems most people blow me out of the water with the expectation that "this time" they will act better.

If progressive parties and media on the Left only realised there is such a committed audience waiting to be tapped here in the Fediverse…
But equally I sometimes fear we are too aloof to politicians/journalists who do make the leap to actually post here. It’s almost like retooting them would make you seem ‘captured’ rather than genuinely supportive. Why is that?
Really have not seen that at all. Whenever a journalist or politician posts here they get a very good response. The numbers are not as high, simply because we are a smaller network and not algorithmically supercharged, but engagement is strong.
It is true that they very rarely reply, but that seems like just the way they roll everywhere.

I’m glad you’ve seen a positive response. I guess I’m mostly looking at UK politicians and journalists and maybe it varies by country rather than it being a Fediverse thing in general.
@mastodonmigration I don't think they specifically declared Bluesky to be the singular destination even if it seems like it was the only one that got a mention.
I think the idea was that everyone leaves and declares where they can be followed.
It seems like they coordinated so that the accounts of the Green and the Left party just today got their Bluesky blue checkmarks on their accounts that had been somewhat inactive over there and the former still is for now...
Kind of feel like that is a distinction without a difference, but thanks for the clarification.
In any case, it seems like this was a golden opportunity lost to establish their own independent identities on the Fediverse free from outside control.
