Civic news:
- cherry blossoms are in peak bloom
- the nominations period has opened for municipal elections: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/elections
- as per email newsletter, after 20 years (5 terms) in office, my local councillor Gord Perks isn't running for re-election. Not a huge surprise; as per @GraphicMatt, his share of the vote has been steadily dropping and, had he run again, it wouldn't have been a safe bet at all. The next candidate is almost certainly going to be more of a centrist or, at least, less of a raging lefty. I have...mixed feelings. I have wanted to know (but was too chicken to ask) how he felt about seeing one of his early environmental causes, the public recycling system, dismantled (for those not in the know, the province privatized it this year). I guess that's sort of an answer...anyway, I hope someone did/is going to do an exit interview!
