How do fedi people feel about Matrix in 2026? Context: I am looking at some options for hosting a community with persistent communication (i.e. not mastodon style).
Ideally I would just use old-school mailing lists but self-hosting those seems impossible given restrictions on email nowadays.

@fd93 Discourse is not distributed ( #ActivityPub) and people need a distinct account. Discourse is also good for knowledge management, questions and answers pages, newsletters. It encourages longer posts.
@rriemann Sounds good, I will spin it up somewhere. I gotta add Isso to my blog posts as well, since that's probably the bare minimum in terms of talking to people who read my stuff
Discourse has an official ActivityPub plugin, though it is fairly rudimentary at this point, and needs more love I'd say.
The #SocialHub community forum is federated, for instance. https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks and is also used by the AP plugin maintainers for testing the functionality.
@smallcircles @rriemann Looks cool; if they have the option for people to subscribe to threads via RSS I know a lot of fedi types like @jelloeater appreciate that
