The proposed California law requiring age verification on all OSs is just silly. How do you enforce a border on a kernel?

Unless they mandate locked bootloaders at the OEM level, which is a direct attack on #RightToRepair , they can't stop anyone from installing a #Linux distro. It is a move that only hurts law abiding users while being trivial for anyone with a thumb drive to bypass.

Privacy is a right, not a verified privilege.

@terminaltilt "Law abiding users". This wording, combined with the given context, implies that Linux users are criminals.

Microsoft now uses AI to write a lot of code, so I would argue that Microsoft - and Microsoft Windows users - are the criminals:

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/29/satya-nadella-says-as-much-as-30percent-of-microsoft-code-is-written-by-ai.html

This is because AI-based code will be using copyrighted code used as training data, some of which may be under the GNU GPL which prohibits use inside a proprietary program.

Proprietary software is morally criminal anyway.

@libreleah

Fair point. My use of "law-abiding" was meant to highlight how these laws only burden the average person while doing nothing to stop the technically literate.
