@MakersHour A2. Sourcing materials when starting out in needlework? Scrap fabric from old clothes can be good for small projects. A craft thrift store can be an excellent if somewhat random source. Often craft patterns can be purchased with a packet of materials.

A2 ooph. That's a complicated question. I work in so many different mediums, metal, wood, plastic, fabric, leather, ceramic, etc... sourcing materials for these is incredibly locale specific. The wood available in a place is dependent on the local market. In the metal working aree finding the names of different types of steel is hard. What is called O1 in the US, is called 1.2510 here. Finding that name mapping is complicated.
