I feel the need to clarify: I oppose the suggestion for all USAmericans to flee via students visa. B/C this is a hypothetical & imo for many reasons a bad idea. This hypothetical idea following I oppose for many as well hypothetical reasons. 330 Mio ppl fleeing would flood capacity & systems & worsen the sit. for everyone and not change 1 thing. 500 sign limit doesn’t help a deep convo.
Well, good news -- the number of people seeking to flee is only a tiny, tiny fraction of 330 million.
(P.S. many other fedi instances have larger character-limits; I agree that 500 is ridiculous for having substantial discussions.)

@juergen_hubert @swaldman @alice USAmericans need to stay and clean up the mess they created for themselves. There isn't enough room in Europe to host half their population. USAmericans have not done enough to prevent this, now they need to get up their lazy asses & stop this desaster. You don't want to hear this I am sure, yet this is the reality.
Yeah, pretty much. German political leaders always stressed the "Transatlantic Friendship/Alliance", and it would be awkward to admit that this now belongs on the dung heap of history.
And this doesn't even count the European political leaders who were extruded from the American business machine, such as our own Friedrich #Merz (a #Blackrock veteran).

True. But your EU license has a name in it. Now, with German Mr Dobrindt and Mr Linnemann, both fascists in disguise, and their demands of "special registers" for trans people and deadname forwarding to police and other "security institutions" we trans people will face the same, as soon as the Nazi party AFD comes to power in 2029. Every nazi cop will see your name/gender-ID change, forever.
After "special registers" we'll see "special housing" aka camps. Again.
It's weird seeing all the far right "15 minute city" conspiracy theories (which claim alternatives to cars restrict people's freedom) and now the far right is specifically using cars to restrict people's freedoms.
It's like yet another accusation being a confession. All the conspiratorial lies they told about public transport being an instrument of control, they are now actually doing themselves with cars.
@FediThing This is more about the DL as personal ID, which is ubiquitous in the US. We use our DLs as ID all the time -- liquor store, club, bank, etc. This is about shaming and humiliating a disfavoured group, and making just living as hard as possible. And, ultimately, discouraging trans people from voting, where ID is also required.

@B_Bird @alice A poorly-written bill went to a committee who gutted it and inserted some batshit insanity without following the procedure for allowing any public input. Less-insane politicians suggested amendments to make it less awful and were repeatedly shut down. The bill went to the Governor's desk and she not only vetoed it, but made a public statement on how awful the bill is.
The Republican-led legislature voted to override the veto, and now we're stuck with the law.
Really flagrantly disgusting.
