Just had my smart electricity meter replaced - the old one was only a few years old and working perfectly, but as the electrician explained the old one communicated on the 2G cellular network which is now being shut down, so they all have to be replaced. Surely this should have been anticipated? #ESB #SmartMeter

Fwiw, we have a very similar situation here in NL.
Iirc about one million meters need to be replaced because 2G is phased out, and the new meters will have a replaceable communication module to avoid another full meter replacement later.
@KingmaYpe That’s very interesting - so Ireland is not the only electricity network to have this problem!
