In the USA, in the past few years, we had a lot of news articles about "organized retail crime" and thefts from stores.
Most of that 'news' turned out to be made up: a combination of corporate PR to cover closing stores that were failing for other reasons, and police PR to justify lobbying for more funding.

@iju Yeah, they're locking down steaks in local supermarkets too.
Of course, there's hardly any staff in the store on checkouts and security.
