Following last week's heavy & disruptive Sierra Nevada snowfall, an extremely warm atmospheric river will cause substantial rain to fall atop snowpack even at high elevations this week. *However,* widespread serious flooding is *not* expected...for now. Why? [Thread] #CAwx

Map showing accumulated water vapor transport over a 3 day period over the northeastern Pacific Ocean. It depicts a large and intense plume aimed at California, but with significant attenuation of the most intense part of the atmospheric river before it makes landfall in California (i.e., the most intense parts stays offshore). This is a prediction from the ECMWF model.
