I’m deeply grateful to receive the endorsement of CUPE Local 79 — the largest municipal union local in the country, representing 30,000 City of Toronto workers.
These members are the backbone of Toronto. They’re the people who keep the city running every single day — from keeping our water and food safe to caring for our precious elders in long-term care, to nurturing libraries, recreation centres and parks as vibrant community spaces.
CUPE 79 has shown the entire country what it looks like to fight and win. With their commitment to deep local organizing and real solidarity, they secured an unprecedented agreement — eliminating minimum wage jobs from City employment and winning historic wage increases for the lowest-paid workers.
That’s what building working-class power looks like.
I’m honoured by their support — and I’m ready to fight alongside them for an economy that works for the many, not the money.
