Many people left X because it thrives on hate-driven engagement. In terms of reducing hostile and toxic interactions, how much better is the Fediverse, really?

I’ve seen Fediverse enthusiasts mock people who prefer BlueSky, calling them "normies" and speaking with a sense of superiority when defending this space.

Even within the Fediverse, we often get caught up in technicalities, apps, protocols, federation details, and other things that most people simply don't care about. People just want to connect, find community, and read meaningful content.

If we can’t tolerate others choosing different paths or platforms, then we’re reproducing the very behavior that pushed many away from X in the first place.

If we want the Fediverse to grow, we need better technology, as well as more empathy and openness.

@everton137 granted, bluesky is ran by wannabe nazis. I do consider non-nazis superior to nazis.

@everton137 Twitters algorithms promote misinformation and toxic interactions.

Mastodon doesn't.

Both let toxic commenters make comments on posts.

@everton137 Well, humans are humans, you will find a-holes everywhere. But it's a big differenc, if I only have to block the typical "Mastodon police" or some fanatic IT nerd, or if a whole platform is built on fascist's algorithms shadowbanning science, antifa, and climate informations.

@everton137 agree. There is a nice blog post which also deals with people being very rigid about becoming independent from Big Tech. I would always prefer to go forward in small steps instead of keeping the status quo. I would also wish, that it’s going faster, but we need to accept reality -> https://www.kuketz-blog.de/das-toleranzproblem-der-tech-szene-menschen-mitnehmen-statt-belehren/

@Trifisch nice article, thanks for sharing it! Another good one by @kuketzblog ! :)

I was writing some thoughts similar to this article, because it really ressonated with a book I am reading on 'How democracies die', specially a chapter explaning the importance of forbearance: https://social.vivaldi.net/@everton137/116091281788882985
