Got a letter through from the consultant today. From what she says, it looks like I've basically massively overtrained and got to either Stage 2 or 3 of this:

@citc Oh weird, teu this link instead: https://www.physio-pedia.com/Overtraining_Syndrome
@ Doug Belshaw
Thank you. The issue of 'amgaf' related "backroom" internet infrastructure is often forgotten; perhaps something to consider also in your project about data sovereignty
@citc Yep, that's pretty much what prompted it - specifically our shared hatred of Microsoft
@dajb Wow, what have you been doing for training prior to this?
@blainsmith Well, that's the thing. I think that I just ramped things up too quickly. 10k every other day (pushing myself via Strava) and leg weights or arm weights on the other days. One day off per week.
The thing that tipped me over the edge was training too quickly after a viral infection and during a period where I was stressed af
@blainsmith It took me a year to work my way through the system to get to a national expert on exercise physiology and psychology. And even that was by accident.
Along the way, I had every major organ checked and was on medication to lower my heart rate. Although I stopped running, I didn't stop going to the gym and have a proper rest until last month.
I might have to just do pretty much nothing other than long walks for a while.
@dajb Not that I would ever say "that's too much" to anyone since it is all relative, but that might have just been it. Too much too quick like you said. I've never hit that level of over-training, but I have come to the point of diminishing returns so I had to force myself to take "deload" weeks every 2-3 months.
Those times suck for me mentally because I just feel slow, weak, and pegged with anxiety since I put so much emphasis on my training to help with my own mental state.
@blainsmith Yeah, I was never training *for* anything other than my own mental health and sense of self-worth.
Oh, and being able to eat anything I like. The genes handed down by my dad's side of the family are not the 'skinny' ones 😂
@dajb Same! People look at me funny when I explain my training to them and I don't do it *for* anything other than personal health.
I am fighting my own genetics too since my dad had triple-bypass at 47 and I just hit 44 and everyone else on my mom's and dad's side of the family passed away from heart disease.
Just gotta keep reminding myself to take a break and 1 week "off" won't derail my efforts.
I am sorry you got hit with this. I wish you the best recovery and hope you get back to it!
