#NoKings uses "non-violence" to mean non-disruptive. But that's not how Dr. King used the term.
"Non-violence" in the Civil Rights era dictates we not retaliate violently after we disrupt the status quo. It's sitting in a "whites only" diner, disciplined not to react when coffee is thrown in our face.
No Kings has no equivalent to sitting in a whites only diner. Instead, it dictates that we stand outside with a sign demanding the things we aren't willing to take.

@woozle I've heard the networking framing a few times. I can buy that for sure. Networking is important. Building contacts is important.
But that's not what No Kings is advertising. I've never heard them even mention it. In fact, the only networking it encourages is giving them your contact info so they can market to us.
So it seems a bit like painting a bulls eye around the arrow.
@fromjason PR and real goals are often serving two different ends; just at a glance, it seems obvious to me that the PR would aim for something more inspiring than "find your network of co-conspirators!" -- and of course a lot of the motivation even for the organizers may have been emotional rather than calculated.
Regardless of intent, though, they are still useful for that purpose, as well as helping morale.
(FWIW, I haven't attended any rallies, though I think it's great that so many people did.)
