@swift Agreed. I'm very afraid we will soon lose access to very valuable content if creators do not make their work available on open non-commercial platforms like PeerTube. So much more people need to care and be aware of this danger, and of the censorship power YouTube/Google has.

@Em0nM4stodon

Age verification for kids means ID verification for everyone. The loss of anonymity and privacy would be systemic. Fucking dolts.

I see how it’s related, but I think we are mixing the two topics: 1. Kids shouldn’t have access to social media. 2. Privacy.
I think big companies are trying us to get stuck in the second topic as if it was the main point but it’s not. What some governments are trying to do is to stop our kids to get access to something that has proven to be addictive and toxic.
We can discuss the how, but it is a fallacy to say that we can’t protect kids without killing privacy

@Em0nM4stodon irony is that to watch the video I have to sign into /up-to google.

#YouTube is a big part of the problem.

@swift Yeah, I'm definitely not a big fan of that either. If you use a VPN like I do, sometimes changing server solves this problem. I don't have a YouTube account, so I only watch videos while signed out. I always end up being able to watch (so far), using a different server.

I wish this video was also accessible from PeerTube.

@Em0nM4stodon right. I tried a few countries but I didn't get anywhere.

I think people need to be making more of a thing about this; so many people choose to ignore the rushing control and censorship of YouTube, as if it's not run by google.

Dear @tedtalks, this is something you need to do: Allow your content to be watched free from the G.

@Em0nM4stodon My biggest worry here is when they'll turn their claws to the Fediverse. Because they will if they see an opportunity. Like dogs smelling raw meat.
