Does everybody else here experience "being the asshole in the room" among your friends and family for trying to switch people to newer open tech (like #ActivityPub and #matrix) because they're all just accepting of the limitations of the old ways, even though it wouldn't be that hard and make things much better long-term? Lock-in is a bitch.

Absolutely. I posted a wee while back on the Cassandra Complex that comes with seeing the consequences of letting corporations intermediate every aspect of daily life, well in advance, but feeling unable to convince enough people to opt-out while they still have the option.

yes, recently talked about that with the author of a german book, I gave an interview to.
Conclusion was that clever people who have children in a school are the largest assholes (cause WhatsApp and Mark basically _is_ the school) …
