Does the free desktop have a concept for allow-listing what app can send notifications? And if so, which desktop environments would implement it?

Most of the time I don’t want any notification at all on my laptop, but sometimes I would like to make an exception e.g. for a single pomodoro timer.

#linux #gnome #kde

@thibaultamartin

The Gnome settings UI, with the notifications panel open. You can see a list of apps, with the label "On" next to them (implying that "Off" is an option too).

@thibaultamartin I think the biggest problem is dbus and it it being so permissive that building rules for it becomes basically becomes impossible or at the very least very unreliable..

@thibaultamartin I don't think there's a need for a standard but at least GNOME allows you to select which apps can send notifications very easily.
