My local library makerspace has a free sewing machine AND a free serger... not sure what a serger is... but it looks fancy.
Maybe..... I'll make a quick appointment to get a badge for these machines... Juuuuuust in case I wanna do more sewing in the future.
@tinker I had one that had a hood. I think they called it a flight suit because marketing but I wore that thing almost every day when I started WFH for COVID. It finally wore too thin with too many holes to patch but while it happened to fit great, trying to cover all the variability in body and limb proportions is tough to do and still keep it comfortable.
@tinker I mean, I already wear Carhartt and Dickies to my programming job... Why not?
@tinker I was accepted into military aviation just as they were switching from the classic one piece flight suit to the two piece and I was incredibly disappointed.

Lots of women wear jumpsuits... and they usually sit to pee as well. Seems its a doable thing.

A long time ago I worked in a place where a lot of people wore jumpsuits, but for some reason they preferred to call them flightsuits. Go figure.
@gueuledatmosphere - Yeah, we wore flightsuits while doing convoy ops in Iraq. Cause they didn't melt when exposed to flash fire.
My dad was a pilot and I joked that we wore the same outfit but in different war domains.

I highly recommend that you check this out and earn these badges! My library #MakerSpace really got me into sewing. Start with bags or pillow coverings and go from there.

@tinker at the store I worked at in high school (it was a weird combination hardware store and furniture and flooring store), one of the owners would take carpet remnants that were too small for installing and serge the edges, turning them into giant inexpensive rugs that they could then sell. I picked one up when I quit to go to college. A giant rug covering the whole dorm room floor was such a luxury!
@tinker the serger makes edges. Make a search for "overlock stitch". It is often used as decoration, as an alternative to a hem.
@tinker serger is for finishing seams or sewing knits. You probably have serged edges inside the clothes you’re wearing. It does a loopy thing with the thread.
@tinker a server is an overlocker. Essentially it creates an sealed edge on your material with stitching so your material doesn't fray etc. Very handy😁This is brilliant that your local library has these!

Like, I don't know many people who can sew on a button, much less make an outfit.
@m4iler - I can do the normal stuff we learned in the Marines and cub scouts. Like. I can sew on a button and patch up holes and make a seam... but I've never done a full proper outfit from a section of fabric for example.
@tinker Yeah, that must be hella different... My aunt can do that (she made me a Superman outfit when I was a kid).
