I've managed to start making some more barely useful underwear out of scraps of this very fine cotton muslin (the sheer drape-y kind, not the stiff unbleached mock-up kind) I ended up with when I accidentally started using the wrong fabric for that lace skirt I made a couple of months ago. And it's one of those things where I have to manage a couple of machine sewn seams so I can leisurely do a lot of hand sewing while listening to my shows. But the brain, the executive function! Where!
Relatedly: Sewing is such a dainty and delicate hobby, in no way at all will you develop interesting new callouses and pierce the tips of your fingers so many times that the skin comes off in sort of strata... 😅 And this is with me using thimbles!

I am extremely annoyed that I snapped my favourite sewing needle! It was just thick enough to take a doubled up cotton thread or two strands of cotton embroidery floss, and basting thread was easy to thread into it... But it was also slim, sharp and long enough to get a proper grip and straight stitch going. And I don't seem to have any other sewing needle in my about three dozen that would have all these qualities. What utter shit!
The plumber didn't turn up so I went to get the sewing machine.
It felt like Christmas.
Next iteration on my frame bag. This one is actually two bags that are connected by one wooden strip. Also I added an inner liner and a padded perimeter. It feels like this is quite at the threshold of what a domestic sewing machine can handle.
Next project is making some handlebar roll and attachment.

I swear this "left edge topstitching foot" is just fucking magical. Oh my stars, I've never had less trouble neatly topstitching multiple layers of thick corset fabric! It has one side that is lower than the other and a little sharp ledge where the folded over seam wants to comfortably live, and it just... Works. Magical.

SHAPE! *unhinged giggling* SHAPE! Shape and presser foot! Haha oh good heavens, so good. Some more hinged photos and words follow, but...
Shape! 😭
It’s going to be a learning curve to figure out what to do with these. They’re both raw silk. They’re 60 years old.
Making stuff that requires dry cleaning seems fundamentally ecologically unethical to me, so I’m going to snag a little from each bold and wash it in the machine and see what happens to it.
Garments should be wearable, and not require you to break the bank or ruin the planet to get it clean. #sewing
Meanwhile, look what I scored: two old vintage tanmono (fabric bolts specifically for making kimono).
Both are pure silk. One is 12 meters and the other 22 meters. 26 and 27 Euros respectively. (for each entire bolt)
I don’t know what the import duties are going to run me, but if it’s feasible, I’m going to seriously consider starting a business. #sewing
Alrightee. That was a bit of a slog, but here we are - a haori coat with side slits and patch pockets. For those of you who know about Japanese garments, you’ll be aware of the dramatically long collar’s friend is not at all traditional, nor is the collar that stops before the hem, in the echo of a kimono collar. It’s eccentric but in a very quiet way. I’m rather proud of it. #sewing

How's this one? Just meant as a little cutie, quite far removed from my normal things. I'd like to make tons of 'just cute' things to add on to my normal range.
