I am glad to say that the first manuscript from the lab is now available on BioRxiv
https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.10.30.685496v1
We set out to answer a simple question:
If the fruit fly #Drosophila cannot see clearly, how would they #sleep ?

A small but important step for the lab: this manuscript👇 just got accepted in Neurobiology of Sleep and Circadian Rhythms

As usual the reviewers from the #circadian research field provided constructive and useful reviews that improve readership and analysis.

Updated BioRxiv version deposit soon.

Also sharing some thought about the apparent issue with publishing with Elsevier and special issue.......of course I would love to submit to Non-Elsevier, but there are not much sleep x circadian journals out there: Journal Biological Rhythm was my original thought but they are less sleep and our work did not address any circadian issue..there is a new kid: npj BTS...but npj is not less evil.. Also this NBSCR special topic was called by Stuart Peirson and very fitting to what we do

@kofanchen

That is one problem with niche journals: they have the right experts, but they are often in the claws of the corporations.

I stopped worrying about peer-review and just publish in broad journals instead (Open Biology, P1, F1000, soon, hopefully, ORE, etc.). If it's online, intrested people will get it.

@brembs
Thanks for the tips about ORE https://open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu/
I was not aware of it, one of the co-authors of this paper is actually funded by the last Erasmus+ we had here.

@kofanchen
Starting this year (not sure yet, when) authors from all countries with supporting funders get to publish there, too. Germany, for instance, is in. Haven't checked the UK. May be tricky with brexit...
