Anyone has recommendations for a good pair of crimplers that I’d buy once and never regret my choices? Something that can go from 32 to 16 awg. Asking for a friend #electronics #tools #diy

@kaievans depends on the terminals you’re crimping, almost certainly one set won’t do them all. You can get crimpers with interchangeable dies, eg https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005940788522.html

Whatever you do get, get them with a ratcheting mechanism. You can crimp 1-2 clicks on the ratchet to hold the jaws lightly closed while you fiddle with wire placement, and when you crimp down you know it’s tight enough when the ratchet releases itself.

@jpm I actually have exactly this one 😊 it works but I can’t say I’m in love with it.

@kaievans same - its way better than the piece of stamped flat steel that Bunnings calls a crimper. It really depends on what connectors you crimp most of - for me it’s JST and DuPont, so I’ve got a dedicated JST crimper too:

@kaievans you could buy a branded Molex or JST crimper tool. Maybe they’re better? Are they that much better to justify the price? No idea, these ones from China work fine for me for occasional (approx once/month) use.
