"Just like muscles, the brain has limits. It does not get stronger from endless strain. Real growth comes from the right balance of challenge and recovery.

When the brain is pushed for too long without a break – whether that means long work hours, staying locked onto the same task or making nonstop decisions under pressure – performance starts to slip. Focus fades. Mistakes increase."

Your brain can be trained, much like your muscles – a neurologist explains how to boost your brain health

Challenging the brain by exposing it to new situations, tasks and skills can improve its efficiency, much like strength training does for our muscles. But maximum efficiency requires optimal rest.

Maybe this helps to explain the apparent paradox that more time off makes workers more productive, not less. More work can be completed, well, in fewest hours, when people's brains (and bodies) get sufficiently frequent breaks from being focused on work.

@strypey yeah, I think it's like how 8 hours of physical work also may be too many to be optimal
