My old #Rust in #Android team just published a blog post showing Android continues to improve #security by pushing for more memory safe code: https://security.googleblog.com/2025/11/rust-in-android-move-fast-fix-things.html

The results are amazing: Android now writes more Rust than C++, and the **Rust changes land faster** due to fewer revisions and faster code reviews. Medium and large changes are **rolled back about 4 times less** than changes written in C++.

Archive or delete?

It's common for an email client to have both Archive and Delete buttons. Which means you're essentially forced into developing your own strategy for when to use one or the other. (We could factor in "spam" as well, as that is another option. But I think everyone largely agrees you spam spam.) When GMail launched…

The lazy Git UI you didn't know you need

The (lazy) Git UI You Didn't Know You Need

When my son was born last April, I had ambitious learning plans for the upcoming 5w paternity leave. As you can imagine, with two kids, life quickly verified this plan 🙃. I did eventually start some projects. One of the goals (sounding rebellious in the current AI hype cycle) was to learn and use neovim for coding. As a Goland aficionado, I (and my wrist) have always been tempted by no-mouse, OSS, gopls based, highly configurable dev setups.

Connecting one stubborn task to my core values changed everything. Sometimes you need to feel the why before you can do the work.

The big takeaway from this is that no app or system can take away the emotional resistance you're feeling toward a task. Acknowledging that resistance and letting it speak has to come first.

Ice Cubes is one of the best apps to experience Mastodon – it's free, open-source and constantly improving. But how to deal with 500+ tickets and lots of feature requests as a single maintainer? 😱

It's amazing how a (small) task on the to-do list that you've been putting off can generate a huge cognitive load. Then you do it - it only takes a few minutes - and the unburdening feels amazing.

Is one aspect of the UK's 'productivity puzzle' the size of the NHS?

The Office of National Statistics has always had difficulty finding good data to measure NHS productivity; and its the UK largest employer.

And, much of the key work of the NHS is (and should be) prevention... but that shows up as effort (cost) expended in any data, but output (life gains) years/decades ahead.

Perhaps the NHS should be excluded from productivity data?
