I'm seriously thinking about quitting uni at the end of this year and abandoning my quest to become a therapist.

Higher education feels so inaccessible to me, even with support.

I am melting down at every assignment because it's unclear what they actually want, or they put in rules that don't make any sense.

I feel pretty hopeless about it all at the moment.

@alexisbushnell

I understand.

Three decades ago, while in a social work program, people (professors and supervisors in the field) seemed shocked that I actually wanted to help the people we were supposed to help.

Um. Isn't that what we were training to do?

They thought it was about dangling potential resources on a string they could rip away without notice.

@alexisbushnell For what it is worth, I crashed out of A-levels (plus the OU as a mature) for similar reasons. Unless you are 100% and have someone beside you to coach through the academic game, it is difficult to make progress.

@alexisbushnell As someone who crashed out of uni hard (long before I knew I was autistic), I can fully sympathise. Is it possible to negotiate with your uni regarding being overstimulated? If they knew you were thinking of walking away, they might be willing to reach a compromise

@benjamincox it's not even an in person uni. I had hoped Open University would be easier as they're supposed to be super accessible but I think the problem is just my brain sadly.

@alexisbushnell Dunno if it helps but, sometimes, trying to find previously submitted (and high-graded) assignments might help with sussing out the structure of what is being asked

@danielscardoso thanks. I don't know that it would help because they provide quite extensive notes, none of which seem to actually explain properly.

The last assignment it turned out that there was a secret question they hadn't asked that they wanted to be answered in the essay. How they expected me to know about this secret question I don't know.
