Wordpress does certainly not guarantee an influx of developers competent enough to build a social network that brings the needed privacy features.
Encryption of private messages? Encryption of user data?
Mastodon does not do that and currently people are creating a giant privacy problem for all Fediverse users. But Wordpress will bring another level of security problems on top of that, this is begging for disaster.
Excited to see WordPress still using the @FediverseSymbol throughout the interface

@haubles just dropped the massive news that Mastodon is going to be changing the default signup flow on mobile apps to choose an instance thats geographically close to you instead of choosing mastodon.social by default!

@liaizon and @Gargron is wrong... I'd say "as usually" but that's just be mean.
Email clients have been built into rich messaging platforms despite resting on a much more barebones base vocabulary in comparison to ActivityStreams.
What Gagron did was show a severe lack of imagination, and thusly condemn a passable interface to an obscurity that some of us have been trying to overcome ever since...
@liaizon "barebones" i'll grant, but the idea of "no notifications" is funny because the inbox is all notifications. a separate "home feed" would ideally be an, uh... separate feed. in many cases you can construct one based on the notifications you receive in your inbox! that doesn't seem to be what mastodon is going for, though, so it's no wonder they weren't keen on using it (i.e. different goals)
@liaizon what is needed for a social platform is an entire suite of apis, not just one endpoint.

@liaizon Having a small world moment recognizing @raffomania from my time in Hamburg, where we had some overlapping years at the university's computer science campus and apparently exchanged a couple of emails. Not sure if we ever met face to face. Cool project! 🙂

The fediverse is not done!
@KevinMarks @tsyesika that doesn't help in this case unless that information is used and visualized in places like name autocomplete and weighting of search results. Also it requires everyone to have a website or place that they own which is only the case for tech and larger personalities
