I am yet to find a straightforward answer to “should I use all the devices I have that support Matter by switching them *to* Matter, or should I keep them in their manufacturer's apps?”

I *think* the answer seems straightforward, but I'm not sure.

@decryption you're doing this, yes?

@decryption at all? How do you onboard the devices? I've not thought of skipping the manufacturer app.

So, for example, if my washing machine can tell me its status (as one thing it might do), I can skip the manufacturer's app altogether so long as I have the integration in HA?

What about things like my LIFX lights? My various Tapo devices?

@trib it really depends what you're using - but all the gear in my house doesn't need those apps. Most of it does work without needing the app - give it a shot! Most of the time HA can auto-discover. Some vendors are just shit though, gotta be a little picky about the products

@decryption time to do some semi-professional computer touching!

This “skip the vendor app" question has been bugging me.
