@craiglambie42
> comparing @wordpress with #Ghost as why wouldn't a self hosted wordpress work in a similar way

More or less. Although Ghost is a leaner stack, with a focus on supportings publications (newsletters, blogs, etc). It's like what WordPress was, before it became the universal website builder. But the point is, authors can choose whatever works for them, and with AP syndication, audiences can read in whatever AP-enabled client they like.

@craiglambie42
> I think the "feed" and the "algorithm" are why people go to the SubStack world

I doubt it. They are the reason many readers are refusing to go near SS and many authors are leaving;

https://disintermedia.net.nz/ghosting-substack/

To the degree that people put up with SS's social media features, I think it's for the reasons you gave in the OP;

> authors, so they can get paid for their work, and the readers - as it is an amazing source of great writing

Once again, the power of network effects.

Ghosting SubStack

Why I finally decided to leave, and where I'm going next

@strypey thanks for that link to @lightweight's site - what an interesting read, and glad to follow/ connect with some like minded fedi's :)
I think Ghost is interesting, and I see the appeal after reading Dave's blog on it - for starters it is super similar to SS - but the integration with the Fediverse is a little clunky... I would like to see it more tightly using AP. It also relies on Stripe - I am working on @fedipay for the exact reasons of avoiding stripe and multiple subscriptions...

Great stuff. I assume you've followed the Kalashnikov Principle and looked into the history of previous efforts, like SubClub?

Where does FediPay sit in the digital payments stack described here?

@strypey that is super interesting. I wonder what happened with sub.club. Do you know anyone that was involved?

I suggest reading the linked articles and watching the linked video, that will help fill you in : )

> Do you know anyone that was involved?

I believe Anuj Ahooja of @anewsocial was one of the co-founders.

@strypey I actually wasn't a co-founder, I helped there as an advisor and was really excited about the project! Unfortunately, it didn't work out in the end, but it looks like @crowdbucks is doing similar work that's worth checking out.

That'll teach me not to believe what I read in the tech press without independently fact-checking ; )

True, I'd forgotten about that project, thanks for the reminder. Definitely worth chatting with them @craiglambie42 about your vision for @fedipay. Also @bandwagon who have integrated a music sales platform into the fediverse.
