update: done, now inside with hot cocoa. By the time I was finished the first bit could have used shovelling again! But this way at least it will be less arduous for the next person. As Rabbi Tarfon said, I believe speaking about snow shovelling, "It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you free to neglect it."
@nev Okay, so when should you shovel snow? I thought it just wouldn't work if it's still snowing, but it sounds like that's not an issue? (I really think they should put this in the immigration welcome packet... they gave me "Walk like a penguin" but nothing on snow shovel etiquette nor vitamin D supplementation!)
@robbo sometimes it helps, if the area gets a lot of foot traffic or if the snow is particularly wet and heavy.
@robbo (I live in an apartment building with multiple entrances and people with strollers and stuff, plus the sidewalk outside, so even just briefly clearing it is better than nothing)
