And as a conclusion to the previous event, #P2P solutions are definitely not useful in extreme conditions, as they require a lot of #energy from power batteries. In contrast, primitive technologies such as classic client-server sockets without #TLS encryption could prevail in a survival scenario.

@yggverse I would expect P2P solutions to be less efficient, but does TLS really make any difference?

Depends on how much TLS you want. Root of trust is centralized (certificate authorities). With CA certs cached, unless you care about revoked certs (which in extreme cases you don't), adding cryptography is cheap.

@greyarea I am thinking about ActivityPub client-server connections. In my experience, fedi software is well-suited for extreme conditions (e.g. I always connect to my instance through Tor), but I'd like to learn more about @yggverse 's experience.
