Today I have a follow up appointment with the Adult Autism service after being diagnosed as autistic a week or so ago.

This is a chance for me to ask any questions I may have.

What would you ask if you had the chance?

@PetraPhoenix

Really interested in this as I feel I didn't really do much with my Dx's. For me the journey was just discovering and validating that I'm different. But post this I don't really understand how it's laid over my life. It was such an overwhelming relief though. Love and power to you and I'd love to see what others think and how you get on. X

I think I am most curious as to how much of what I think of as "me" is actually masking.
I need to talk that through with a professional really. But god knows where I find an affordable one of those!

It has been a relief, but also a bit of a headfuck as I try not to head down the road of What Ifs. That way madness lies.

This is a very perceptive question. I think for me, I moved from reactive masking to proactive - I took back control.

I also realised that in general normies are far more fragile than I had supposed; having to fit into their world had made me quite self-sufficient. I made a big change. I chose to make my first instinct to respond to stressful situations with kindness. Everything gets better from there.

I have always tried to respond with kindness. It is the only weapon I have in my armoury.

I make a distinction between kindness and niceness though. Sometimes being kind is not nice, and being nice is not kind.
