Short Time lapse from a couple nights ago. Showing the northern lights at the cabin. You'll notice a couple of vehicles leaving, one is my niece on ATV and the second is me. #CabinLife #Nunavut #Aurora #AuroraBorealis

Time lapse of northern lights in the high Arctic. Stars sweep across the sky and the green aurora dances throughout. A cabin, lit by an outside light is in the fore ground. Twice vehicles can be seen leaving the area of the cabin and driving across the frozen ocean and up over the hills.

@NunavutBirder

So much amazing in one shot. One thing that stuck out for me, if I recall your cabin is on the East side of the inlet. So this is looking south-ish.

You're more north than the Northern Lights.

whoa.

@tezoatlipoca this is looking pretty much south. And yes, most of our aurora are south. Yesterday was the exception.

@ianp5a leave the porch light on so we know the battery has power. My in-laws are at their cabin pretty much full time and will run the generator if the light goes out.

@lfzz I use a Syrp Genie for the intervalmeter/pan. Camera used is a Canon 1D with a sigma 20mm f1.4 lens.

@NunavutBirder thank you for ur answer.
You never had issues with the cold/condensation?

@lfzz with the sigma lens yes. It isn’t sealed so taking it from warm to cold gets a spot of condensation in the middle of the lens. To counter that I leave it in the porch where it stays cold for winter time lapses.

@NunavutBirder thank you, in the past I did have condensation in the canon main body too. Maybe the change should be much more gradual.

@NunavutBirder Very nice!

In the distance two more neighbors can be seen leaving.

For reference, do you know the specs of your front porch light?

@tg9541 LED. 8 watt I think. The ISO setting is 2500. I toned it down quite a bit in post as it was blown out.

@NunavutBirder 100mW would have been sufficient. Behind the cabin, is that the light of a green LED of some appliance?
