I know Mulan is now often read as a trans masc narrative, but it also always resonated with me as a trans girl one too, especially with how she was pretending to be a man and trying to embody what she's told a man has to be "mysterious has the dark side of the moon" as well as the intense fear of what it would mean to be "found out" if she didn't.

While Reflection is about the pressure to be the perfect woman, the lyrics also resonated with me a lot and still makes me cry, esp:

"Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But you'll never know me
Every day
It's as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

incidentally, while I really do like Christina Aguilera's Disney Records version of the song, it is really weird in retrospect that they had her do it, and it wouldn't stand nowadays (or if they did do it it would cause so much discourse)

I know Pocahontas is a very controversial Disney film for various reasons (the way she was drawn and depicted, the whole historical narrative being really effed up to romantize, etc) but Colours of the Wind is a beautiful song and has a lot of really resonating lines that still stick with me about colonialism and the white/Christian way of seeing the world, its people, and ecology even if it's a bit naive and simplistic:

"You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim"

"You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you"

"You can own the Earth and still
All you'll own is Earth until"

incidentally, the Vanessa Williams version is really good too:

While Carl Anderson's version will always be the iconic definitive Judas, & Jerome Pradon was the wrong vocal range, I absolutely adore his version of Judas in the 2000 Jesus Christ Superstar (the one with Tarzan) because his version seems to be in love with Jesus more than just angry that Jesus is seemingly embracing godhood or feeling the movement is moving away from its roots

In the 70s version, Judas is away from Jesus, watching his stardom, in the 2000s version, Judas and Jesus are there alone at first, and Judas seems very intimate with him, touching him, hurt that they've grown apart and I just love the facial acting Pradon does in it and the emotion you feel in his voice, esp with the emphasis on "they'll hurt you if they think you've lied", it's personal

@ami_angelwings My introduction to JCSS was the original 1970 double LP, which was made before Weber got funding for any of the stage or screen productions, that my sister gave me her old copy of when I was in 8th grade. I listened to it hundred of times. So for me Ian Gillan and Murray Head WERE Jesus and Judas, and I could never watch any of the video productions without judging them by their deviation from that standard.

@ami_angelwings Gillan hitting those high notes against the guitar chords, in the casting the money-changers out of the temple scene, is my favorite.

(I have similar issues with The Who's "Tommy" album vs. the movie.)
