My only consolation, as with everything being destroyed by fascists & AI corps & broligarchs of all kinds right now, is that they can't destroy the IDEA of wikipedia.
We had something good once.
They can enshittify and extract and exploit... but WE (the people) are the source of everything...

And art. And science.
We are the engines of creativity.
We can take our attention & our creations & rebuild (or build something better) cuz we are the ones who built it in the first place.

MY GOD this "AI and fascism eat everything" is going to be a long hard road
I'm pretty convinced I won't even see the bottom of this death spiral. And yet I persist because it's only with someone nurturing the seeds through the winter that we have any chance at all.
I cling to something another tech industry escapee told me about where she was in life, leaving corporate tech for civic good projects : “looking for the work that will outlive me”.
We’re the ones who need to work NOW on being the “good ancestors” of 2100.

Being a "good ancestor" is super on my mind a lot.
One of my first published solarpunk stories was for the Grist Imagine 2200 contest "climate fiction for future ancestors" and... yeah.
Still love that story. It was a good way to start down this path.
