So Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down from Lucasfilm. I already hear people cheering because they hate her, but these people are idiots.
Was not having a "master plan" for episodes 7-9? Yes, it was. But it was also thanks to her that we got Mandalorian, Rogue One, Andor, Visions and all the more daring projects (including the movies currently being produced, will they be good or bad, no idea, but I think they're also trying something different). ⤵️
@DavidBHimself I think by not having a "master plan" for 7-9, they were following in Lucas' footsteps with 4-6, and maybe even 1-3. With Lucas' public, written support of the #LOST writers making shit up as they went along, it became obvious to me that that was what Lucas has been doing. I do get the impression that Lucas has had a general outline of #StarWars plot, but not necessarily the details. I like what Ep 8 was *trying* to do, but I don't think it succeeded. I don't think the answer was reversing course and doubling down on the fan service again like they did with Ep 9, though. I think they should have continued along the path of Ep 8, but modify their approach so that it wasn't as radical, and made more sure they succeeded where Ep 8 failed.
I like Filoni (Rebels is one of my favorite Star Wars projects) but I'm afraid that with him in charge, it'll be too much of the same, and I also strongly believe that if we want Star Wars that lasts beyond our generations of fans (young Boomers, Gen X and older Millennials basically) we need the thing to have many different approaches and genres within the bigger frame.
Kennedy did that. Will her successors do too? Or will they just try to appease the toxic part of the fans? #StarWars
