If I watch a YT video that has really bright colors, the rectangle with the video is 3x brighter than everything else.
No one wants this.
@randahl Take the opportunity to downgrade back to macOS 15 Sequoia, and stay there until they fix all the issues.
- App icons are a mess, and have lost their individuality.
- Icons in the menus are an absolute joke. They're confusing and incoherent, and don't match across apps.
- The rounded corners make it difficult to resize windows (https://daringfireball.net/2026/01/resizing_windows_macos_26 and https://daringfireball.net/linked/2026/01/12/macos-26-cut-corner).
- The play controls in the Music app are horrific.
I tried it, hated it, went back.
@randahl I'm sure you have one more pieces of software that keep you off Linux. But if you can make the leap you can install one of a number of desktop environments that suits you. Rather than hoping your OS overlord doesn't ruin your interface.
@rlounsbury that is how it should be.
@randahl
Apple has lost it. So many desginflaws lately.
@diekehrseite @randahl They’ve fired the person responsible. Too late to stop him from inflicting this Liquid Glass “aesthetic” (and I use the word loosely) on us, alas.
@ArtHarg @diekehrseite and to think that the liquid glass style comes from the company which rebelled against skeuomorphism in 2013 and removed all the old physical icons.
This makes zero sense to me.
@randahl @ArtHarg @diekehrseite Yeah, I had to enable every accessibility feature I could find to get some contrast in the UI in the latest iOS. So far I have resisted Tahoe on the Mac.
@randahl we seem the trend is to go back in time in many aspects of life... why should IT be an exception. /justkidding Sorry this happened to you.
@randahl My phone looks like it's covered in a layer of sugar. Kind of sticky.
@cgudrian imagine if the power company had the right to suddenly change the looks of all your lamps and power sockets, whenever they felt they wanted to "upgrade".
It seems so weird to me, Apple can decide a new look which billions of users just have to live with, because a design lead at Apple says so.
@randahl Apples UI overhaul makes it all the more evident how much influence big tech has on our daily lives. Many decisions pass by unnoticed.
@randahl haven't you been warned??
