Was able to bicycle with studded tires on a warm day for this area for a couple hours on the first sunny day in a few days.
@ajroach42 I took day off work for chilling. It鈥檚 a good day so far! Trying to make plans for the year, or at least the quarter. I want to be more active creatively again, and part of that is wrapping up the Public Domain project
@ajroach42 After a very hectic few days due to a relative having to go into assisted living and a pet needing to stay overnight at the vet, things are finally calmed down a bit and I can just rest...a very intense "no news is good news" kind of day. I'm hoping to throw together something for the Internet Archive's public domain remix contest by midnight.
Oh and even better, I have been enjoying the heck out of the NETV app: I've been watching Madam Satan, The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case, Animal Crackers, and I just started Morocco, all of which will be or have been reviewed in my zine. What a treasure trove!
@ajroach42 i made one neat synth patch last night
@ajroach42 My camper van build is far enough along that it can be comfy for up to three weeks totally off-grid in remote Mojave sites during Winter. That's a boatload of quiet.
@ajroach42 I am setting up a family gaming computer for my
sons and I. Just installed MYST from
Steam and I'm pleasantly surprised to see it looks handsomely remastered.
It's funny how much wonder I got from that game when it was new (and I was young). Maybe it's the thoughtfulness that made it such a breakthrough, a level up from Cosmic Osmo and other Cyan games of the era. I loved that it was in 3D, but mostly that it was in color, and fundamentally about the magic of books.
@inspectorzutto I tried to get some of the kids I was working with into Myst, but they just bounced off *hard*
Under-stimulating, I guess.
I don't work with them anymore, but I hope they're well.
@ajroach42 Last year I decided to re-learn how to draw. I drew a lot as a kid, and was even pretty good at it - but then all of a sudden I realized that I'm a middle-aged man who can barely draw a stick figure properly, and decided that I'd have to learn it again out of sheer embarrassment. Not because there's anything embarrassing in kids being better at things than adults, but because 13-year-old me would be embarrassed if he saw the quality of 46-year-old me's drawings. I've practiced a lot with regular graphite pencils the last couple of months, and now I've bought a set of coloured pencils I'm going to start working with.
Here is a pencil portrait of my pet lizard, Igor. I think it turned out OK.
@datarama Federation issues prevented the image from loading until just now, but that's wonderful.
I was a fairly accomplished artist as a child. That sounds absurd, but my grandfather was a good painter of some local renown (and a horrible person) he trained me as a kid.
I have motor control issues, so some days I can't make my hands work, but other days I'm still okay.

If everything goes according to plan, I'll be making sofubi today.
We're making a bao bun frog.
