@tootbrute@fedi.arkadi.one I keep wondering, if ONLY Office is so good, and so free (as in freedom), why is it not packaged on Debian? On Gentoo there's a -bin variant, which generally means the source code requires some very complex, often non-free, setups to compile.
I also don't feel Libre Office to be all that bad, but I haven't used it since I left school I think.
@tyil good question.
i'm trying to wean myself off of google docs. once i leave my current job, i won't have any google account anymore.
@tootbrute @tyil@.tyil.nl i'm also interested in only office and also curious why it's not nearly as widely adopted as libre office.
@tootbrute @tyil it looks like Russian connections are not helping... Apparently 75% of shares of parent company owned by some Russian firm
@douginamug@mastodon.xyz @tootbrute@fedi.arkadi.one I personally don't think any kind of connection is inherently bad, so long as the software is truly free software. Going through their plethora of git repositories, sadly hosted on Github, it looks like they use AGPL-3.0. This should be more than free enough for any GNU+Linux distribution to be able to easily add it into their package repositories.
@tyil @douginamug hmm... libreoffice UX is so bad. only office has me pretty happy this week. i used it instead of Google Docs, so that's a win for me.
@tootbrute @tyil seems Collabora have a Desktop version... https://www.collaboraonline.com/collabora-office-classic/ Will need to try both out. No disrespect to LO, but it is painful.
