This handsome boy(?) is living part time on my porch now thanks to the neighbours across the street turfing him out to roam the neighbourhood every damn day all day. My female cat freaks the fuck out spitting hissing attacking the screen door etc. I'm going to have to go talk to them? Has anyone else had this kind of conversation? Isn't it a bit cruel to leave your cat out in the winter all day nevermind the whole bird predation thing? #CatStress #TerritorialDisputes #CatsOfMastodon #AskFedi

A curious tabby Bengal cat sitting on a chair outside my door to keep its toe beans warm. It is looking up at the camera.

@z3r0fox

Assuming you are in Canada, yes, that probably is not healthy for the cat. Before you have the conversation, you might want to look into whether there is a leash law that applies in your area, just to have an informed perspective. And think through your motivations. Your peace? The cat? Birds?

The tricky thing is that the cat might be very insistent on going out, especially if it knows about warm places to take shelter if needed.

@z3r0fox

There is a conflict resolution approach well suited to situations like this:

*Describe the situation neutrally, as if observed by a camera.
*Emote: say how you feel
*Suggest: propose a solution
*Consequences: Ideally start with positive consequences. If no results, may move to negative consequences.
