On the bus to work and I think this might actually be my first time on the new electric buses. It’s super quiet. Otherwise the same as the old bus, but it’s amazing how much calmer it feels in a quieter bus.

@emmadavidson
I wonder how many electric buses could have been deployed with the money spent on the light rail.

@Su_G it still drives like a bus - bit of lurching about. But the dominant sound is the lack of chatter from all the people, rather than the noise of the vehicle. I didn’t even listen to music on the ride like I usually do. It was quiet enough to not need it.

@emmadavidson they are great but there are some drivers who don't (yet) understand how to drive them smoothly. I hope this is just a teething issue.

@luciedigitalni @emmadavidson Most drivers underestimate the torque an electric motor has over an ICE engine when they first drive them. The need, when starting off, to open the throttle on an ICE to prevent stalling gets carried over to the electric vehicle by muscle memory. Electric vehicles just need a gentle squeeze of the accelerometer as there is no risk of stalling. They learn eventually.

Sorry if I am “EVdriversplaining” for those who haven’t driven an EV, but EV’s are such amazing vehicles to drive.

@Old_IT_geek @luciedigitalni I drive an EV mostly when I’m not on the bus, and it’s a lot of fun to drive. Reminds me of playing Mario Kart in responsiveness. Not enough turtles or Yoshis to make city commutes fun though.

@emmadavidson @luciedigitalni I’m a bit too old to have played Mario cart, the best I could do was space invaders. But I’m glad to have lived long enough to drive these incredible cars.
I also love the light rail.

@emmadavidson they very much do feel calmer. Maybe that is why there are those who hate electric transport, they can’t hide their anger in a calm mode.
