A Superb fairywren came to say hello while I was having coffee this morning.

The #AutomatedMothTrap outside my house in #Canberra had been offline for a couple of weeks, because it was crashing each night. It's fixed now, and the #moths are getting much more prominent as the weather warms up here.

The problem was in the power supply to the #RaspberryPi controller. I built it using the variable voltage DC-DC Buck Converters shown here. They are cheap and easy to use, but their efficiency (or at least the output voltage) drifts downwards over time. The one powering the RPi had dropped to 4.7V. When the lights were turned on - and I assume when additionally everything in the box got warmer - efficiency was dropping a little further and the RPi simply shut down. It's now running at around 5.2V and remained stable all last night - montage of images attached.
The small moth is only the second example I've seen here of the oecophorid Cirromitra tetratherma. It turned up sometime after 03:00 this morning.

Interested in better #rail services between #Canberra and #Sydney ?
More often? Faster? Allowing bikes to be taken on board without the absurdity of putting them in boxes...?
Have your input here.

In the last hour I have been swooped by two separate magpies, but that's nothing compared to the abuse I copped earlier from a 60-something posh-looking woman driving an EV for the crime of cycling at 26kmh in a 40kmh zone
